Be4U - Furniture Design History - Into The Millennium


Ron Arad, 1951-

Ron Arad who was born at 1951
in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is an artist, 
architect and also an industrial
designer. He is now Head of
Design Products Department at
the Royal College of Art.

A lot of Ron Arad masterpiece were
based to organic shape or pattern.
By the development of manufacturing
technology, therefore, Ron Arad
could produce his design easily.

Tom Vac Chair which was designed by Ron Arad in the year
1999, this stacking chair fits with Mid-Century Modern motif.
Besides that, it is also one of the most innovative chair in
the world.

Tom Vac Chairs was using the technique of steel pressing. 
With the lining that run around as texture on the chair was 
created a special taste or feeling besides the make of
something more than just functional sitting piece.

The piece of plastic seat that could offer a high degree 
comfort because of the flexibility and stability of the 
corrugated structure.

The plastic had been manufactured by adding that 
prevent colour fading from the sun. Beside that, 
the steel is coated by powder and also galvanized 
which
was great for outdoors.

Philippe Patrick Starck, 1949-

Philippe Patrick Starck was born
January 18, 1949 in Paris. He is
well known as a French Product
Designer and also probably the
best known designer in the New
Design style. Most of his design
were range from the spectacular
interior design to mass production
in consumer goods. Such as
chairs, toothbrushes, shoes
and even houses. Philippe Starck
used to be a member of Alessi
Design studio.

Philippe Starck could be introduce as a crazy and one of the world
creative designer. His design scopes were including products,
furniture, interiors design, transportation and even to fashion.

Philippe Starck designed an imaginative office environment for
film which director by Wim Wenders. He had designed a stool
which called W.W. Stool was more like a sculpture.

This stool look simple but it is special. The material as sand
blasting aluminium and lacquered in turquoise had been used to
manufacturing.

This stool was totally had a different feeling compare to previous
furniture during the art movement.
